Pemberley-state-of-mind
Chatsworth House (Pemberley) by William Marlow.
(Many people ask me about my BG. This is the whole painting. See it in high-res to appreciate the beautiful details).

“Various sources suggest that Jane Austen set Chatsworth as Pemberley. There is no question Jane Austen knew Chatsworth cos she mentions it. There is a line about Pemberley:

“The town where she had formerly passed some years of her life, and where they were now to spend a few days, was probably as great an object of her curiosity as all the celebrated beauties of Matlock, Chatsworth, Dovedale, or the Peak.” (Pride and prejudice, Chapter 42).
She´s known to have come into this area. It´s very nice to imagine she was inspired by it, and let´s hope she was”.

How were the locations chosen for the film?
“The decision really came from Jane Austen herself. I hadn’t read the book before being sent the script, and I was shocked by how acutely observed the novel was, and how much it felt like a piece of British realism. So the idea to shoot in real locations came from that. We wanted to create 360 degree worlds in which the characters could perform.”
(Joe Wright, Director)

Looking at this picture I think that rain was absolutely necessary for the proposal scene. It wouldn´t have been the same on a sunny day.

“This is part of old Sherwood Forest, also up in Derbyshire, where Robin Hood rode around with his merry bunch of men. That´s a 500 years old tree. I´d choosen a different location and the groundsman of Chatsworth very proudly took me to see this tree. And so we´ve got him to thank for this location”.
