“I have been a selfish being all my life, in practice, though not in principle.”
(“Pride and prejudice”, Chapter 58)

“You can’t ask for a better part than Elizabeth Bennet. So if you give an actress who is even remotely good the chance to play a fantastic character like that, they are going to revel in it. They really are.”
(Keira Knightley)

“Astonished and confused, scarcely dared lift her eyes to his face, and knew not what answer she returned to his civil inquiries after her family. Amazed at the alteration of his manner since they last parted, every sentence that he uttered was increasing her embarrassment; and every
idea of the impropriety of her being found there recurring to her mind, the few minutes in which they continued were some of the most uncomfortable in her life.”(“Pride and prejudice”, Chapter 43)
“Mrs. Bennet is not some sort of broad comic dowager, silly creation. She´s terribly funny. But she´s a sort of heroic character because she´s got five daughters and, within a very short period of time, before they become date-expired, she´s got to marry them to save the family.”
(Deborah Moggach, Screenwriter)

“He is just what a young man ought to be,” said she, “sensible, good-humoured, lively; and I never saw such happy manners! so much ease, with such perfect good breeding!”
(“Pride and prejudice”, Chapter 4)
“What can be the meaning of this?” said Charlotte, as soon as he was gone. “My dear, Eliza, he must be in love with you, or he would never have called us in this familiar way.”
(“Pride and prejudice”, Chapter 32)

“Miss Darcy was tall, and on a larger scale than Elizabeth; and, though little more than sixteen, her figure was formed, and her appearance womanly and graceful. She was less handsome than her brother; but there was sense and good humour in her face, and her manners were perfectly unassuming and gentle. Elizabeth, who had expected to find in her as acute and unembarrassed an observer as ever Mr. Darcy had been, was much relieved by discerning such different feelings.”
(“Pride and prejudice”, Chapter 44)

“You mean to frighten me, Mr. Darcy, by coming in all this state to hear me? I will not be alarmed though your sister does play so well. There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.”
“I shall not say you are mistaken,” he replied, “because you could not really believe me to entertain any design of alarming you; and I have had the pleasure of your acquaintance long enough to know that you find great enjoyment in occasionally professing opinions which in fact are not your own.”(“Pride and prejudice”, Chapter 31)
“But above all, above respect and esteem, there was a motive within her of goodwill which could not be overlooked. It was gratitude; gratitude, not merely for having once loved her, but for loving her still well enough to forgive all the petulance and acrimony of her manner in rejecting him, and all the unjust accusations accompanying her rejection.”
(“Pride and prejudice”, Chapter 44)
Did you enjoy working on location in the British countryside?
Yes, definitely! I really enjoy travelling and the opportunity of doing a film in Britain was definitely a huge bonus. Actually partly because I really don´t know the British countryside. It´s weird, I know Devon and Cornwall but I didn´t know Derbyshire, I´ve never been to Kent before and it was a really great opportunity to actually see my own country for a change. So it was a fantastic summer and I´m so glad to have seen all this beautiful places.(Keira Knightley)
