Pemberley state of mind

“What I really like to do is find locations while we’re in script development, so there’s a dialogue and you’re not trying to enforce this fiction onto something that isn’t there. Take the sculpture gallery, for instance: originally, it was picture gallery, as in the book. But because the Victorians destroyed most of the picture galleries in England, I couldn’t find one that was working. Then we were at Chatsworth and we discovered this sculpture gallery which had these incredible sculptures, and suddenly it all made sense that we should shoot the scene in a sculpture gallery, where the bust of Darcy would be far more arresting.”
